Shhh…I Won't Kiss & Tell if You Won't

Kiss & Tell

I
heard how great argan oil is for the hair. I tried it, but when I use it my dry hair gets oily looking. What gives?

I’ve been in your oily shoes. I am a self-proclaimed hair product fanatic. I will try anything to satisfy my hair hunger. Moroccan Oil is the original, and it’s fantastic at creating smooth, radiant-looking hair. However, I only use it as a deep treatment every once in awhile. Only those of you with curly or coarse hair can use it on a regular basis. That’s not me: fine and straight is my mane. My search continued. Then a friend gave me Rain Drops by Sidlab. This argan oil is weightless. Hair is left smooth, shiny and UV protected regardless of your hair texture. I use it as my blow out serum, and then I use the leftover oil on my hands to smooth out the flyaways. A must try.

Does anything really work to get rid of cellulite?

The short answer: No. Mother Nature gave us what we have. But don’t despair my pretties, not all is lost. There is one trick of the trade to faking that firmness: self tanning. Believe it or not, bronzed skin has a smoother, more firm appearance. Self tanning is truly the easiest and most cost-effective way to camouflage that flab. For an easy-on-the-pocketbook solution, try Comodynes Self-Tanning Towelettes. Use one, wipe down your body, and you are golden in a few hours for a few days. For those beauty mavens who can attempt a three-step process, you’ll need to exfoliate, moisturize (to help hydrate the area and even out the skin), and then apply a self-tanning product, like St. Tropez Mousse. If you are a bit nervous to DIY, then make an appointment with your favorite tanning technician who’ll spray you down by hand. Try one of our faves: Bask in the Sun Tanning or Organic Bronze Bar.

Catwalk to Sidewalk: Orange Lips

Color is popping up: under your feet, at the racks, and on your lips. Designers Jason Wu and Jen Kao had electric lips for their spring shows. And Pantone declared tangerine the color for 2012. Think you can’t wear orange? You can. Everyone can. Whether you choose a hint of orange or a full, knockout statement, these shades will give an extra zing in your step

Pro Tip: Mascara MessinessLip Service

Pat yourself on the back if you apply your mascara without getting it on your lids or under your eyes. You’ve got skill that I don’t have. When I try to clean up my mess, I make more of a mess. So I asked lead makeup artist at Blush Beauty Bar, Jai Soots, how to clean it up: “The trick is to let the mascara mistakes totally dry, then you can use a cotton swab to sweep them away. If you try to wipe them when they’re still wet you create smudges. So wait, then wipe. And slow down when applying so that you don’t have so many messes to clean up.”

Seductive Sleep

Have you ever considered sleeping with a scent? Recently I discovered Voluspa Black Figue & Chypre home and body mist. It’s sexy—not in a down and dirty way, but in a clean way with a seduction of leather & lace. Spritz your sheets a few times and you’re guaranteed sweet dreams. And no need for monogamy—Voluspa has many, many scents. I’m sure you’ll find a few to bed.

Clarisonic Sonic Skin Cleansing Brush

Upside: It claims to remove six times more makeup than manual cleansing, makes your pores appear smaller, balances the texture of your skin, reduces the appearance of fine lines, and is gentle enough for everyday use.

From your overwhelming positive responses you seem to agree with the company. Some of you love its deep cleansing powers so much that you have one for home and one for travel.Lip Service 1

Downside: A few of you just can’t stop using it and admit that you use it longer than the allotted time, leaving your skin feeling sensitive. My advice to you: use as directed.

My Side: You know those little bumps that you get on the back of your upper arms? Those bumps are called keratosis pilaris, a buildup of dead skin cells. I started using the face and body brush (which I mostly use on my body) along with a body wash that has salicylic acid. Then miraculously those bumps have vanished. I’m a believer, with no concerns about going sleeveless.

Beauty Bag X-Posed: Dana Sacks

Like peeking into your neighbor’s window or looking at a nearby coffee drinker’s iPad, knowing what beauty products are in that handbag is intriguing. And for me, it’s part of my job. Dana Sacks, a beauty devotee, agreed to expose her passion for beauty products. In her words, “I’ve never met a lip gloss I didn’t like.”

What do you take through TSA?

 • Noir Long-Wear EyelinerLip Service 2

• NARS Laguna bronzer

• Peter Thomas Roth Moisture Defense Cream

• NARS G-Spot Multiple

• Chanel Inimitable mascara in black

Why 2 mascaras?

I usually love the brush of one mascara and the formula of another. My Chanel gives great volume, and my Peter Thomas Roth gives length. And in all things, if one is good, two is better… except for husbands, of course.

Product you are most excited about?

I like products that live up to their promise. One of those is BareMinerals Prime Time Eyelid Primer. My shadow never creases and stays on all day.

Insider Intel

I often see women partaking in a ritual at the makeup counter that I will call the “lipstick swipe.” We search through the jungle of colors and swipe madly on the back of our hand what we hope may be the perfect lip color. Sometimes you don’t want to try it on; you’re having a good lip day and don’t want to reapply. Other times, you just don’t want to try on that tester. So, what’s the best way to try on a lipstick without trying it on? Move the ritual to the pads of your fingertips. This part of your hand is most like the color of your lips. Then bring your tips to your lips. Now you’ve got it. Lipstick jungle conquered.
